Perfect for dachshunds

My dachshunds love this food! They will almost fight over it with each other they love it so much. My 12 year old doxie has always experienced extreme tartar buildup and horrible breath. I've tried all sorts of products and this is the first thing that's worked to kill the odor and give them a much better appearance and lack of tartar. I recently took my one year old doxie pup to her vet checkup and the vet came out after the exam just to ask what I was doing to her teeth. When I told him I was using this food he said her teeth look remarkable, especially for a dachshund. Dachshunds are so prone to teeth issues and this has been a perfect solution for better maintenance, plus they love the taste My dachshunds love this food! "Tator Tots" for you dog!

Our vet recommended this food (we affectionately call it "tator tots" since that is exactly what they look like!) for our mini-goldendoodle to help keep his teeth clean. As a puppy, we used it as treats. As Ollie's gotten older, we've done half this and half a smaller kibble. Ollie LOVES this food! We're going to try it full-time and see how it goes. Ollie is now 3 years old and he has great teeth.

Kibble is way too large

I don't know if this actually works or not so my review is not based on that. I love the Hills brand so when I saw this bag for Oral Care I got it for my little dogs. I saw the dachshund on the bag and saw that it said for all dogs and sizes and thought it should be fine for my little dogs who weigh behind 8-15 pounds. The kibble is HUGE! Attached are photos for reference. My dogs would not go near it as it couldn't even fit in some of their mouths. I hope Hills makes another of these for small breeds because this bag is only made for large breed dogs.

If you're looking for the vet prescribed product

Our vet suggested the Science Diet kibble for teeth. I searched all over Chewy but this was all I could find, so I bought it. Vet said it was not the right product. You have to include "prescribed" in your search to find the right product. Chewy, could you make those products easier to find without having to know the secret password? Dogs seem to like the taste. We're using them as treats. But our small dog swallows them whole, which does no good.

Cleaned his teeth and he loves them!

My dog had terrible, stained teeth and I dreaded the thought of taking him to a dog oral hygienist, although he really needed it. I started giving him a handful of these everyday and before I knew it his teeth became a beautiful gleaming white. He is a big black dog and now his teeth are just beautiful and he looks much healthier.

Oral Care Bites way too big for Dachshunds

I've always been happy with Hills Science Diet. I ordered the oral care for my 2 Dachshunds, Willie and Waylon. Neither of them will eat it as the bites are just too big for them and they just dont like it. I reached out to Chewy for a suggestion of a similar substitute with smaller bites for my next auto ship but havent received a response. Not to waste the food I have tried feeding it to my Lab but no luck, she doesnt like it either. Willie and Waylon are Rescues so I do not know their exact age but know they are Seniors. They cant chew like a Puppy anymore. :(

I've tried about 8 to 10 different dry dog food brands, with little success, and this is the only brand my dog will eat. Its a little more expensive, but worth it.

Was having a hard time finding a food my dogs liked, they love this! Takes them a little longer to eat because they have to actually chew it but they always eat all of it, done throwing food out!

The kibbles are indeed large but that's what makes them perfect for us. This food prevents a lot of upset stomach and puke clean-up for me and my dog. My 65pound standard poodle is not in love with food. He will eat, but not with any enthusiasm. He also won't eat on a schedule or eat a prescribed amount of food. He just eats when he's hungry and ready and sometimes he waits a little too long. Sometimes we end up in situations where I need to go somewhere and his stomach is still empty because he hasn't decided to eat yet that day. This food saves the day because he likes it just enough that I have convinced him it's a treat. So he only gets it as a reward and when I desperately need him The kibbles are indeed large but that's what makes them perfect for us. Originally a vet recommended this food to increase my dogs fiber intake. My dog has some anal glad difficulties, and the fiber has helped some with that. The other big benefit for us is the scraping action. The kibbles are designed to brush up against plaque and my dog has a slightly tilted lower jaw so regular sized kibble doesn't create much friction on certain areas of his mouth and he needs extra attention given to his teeth. Unfortunately this stuff isn't the same as going in for a dental cleaning but it certainly helps with maintenance. … more

I have a small 12 yrs. Old terrier . I give these to her as treats to keep her teeth in great shape. I'm happy, she's happy & so is her vet.
